GRAND RAPIDS -- Students looking for internships this summer could be able to tap into a central Web site created by a coalition of business leaders and educators.
Announced simultaneously in Grand Rapids and Detroit this morning, www.interninmichigan.com was created using $2.4 million in public and private funds, including grants from the U.S. Labor Department.
Organizers, including the West Michigan Strategic Alliance and the Detroit Regional Chamber, believe the Web site is the first of its kind in the state.
College students will be able to create online profiles and search and apply for available jobs. Businesses can create organizational profiles, post internships and recruit.
Organizers hope to have 1,000 internships listed within the first year with a goal of 25,000 within five years. Both paid and unpaid jobs are to be posted, and will remain on the site for 30 days and added as they become available.
Participation is free for businesses, universities and students.
