Michael Boulus of Okemos, executive director of the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan, has been named American Arab of the Year in Education by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce.
Boulus was recognized May 18 at the American Arab Celebrating Success Banquet held in Dearborn.
"I am sincerely humbled to receive this recognition," Boulus said. "I am immensely proud of the work that the Presidents Council does to enhance the role of public education in Michigan, and I am proud of my heritage as an Arab American.
My thanks go out to the American Arab Chamber of Commerce for this honor, and more importantly, for the fantastic work they do on behalf of businesses and Arab Americans throughout the country."
Boulus has served as the executive director of PCSUM since January 2003. Prior to joining the Presidents Council, Boulus served as deputy state treasurer for the Michigan Department of Treasury.
He is the former executive director of the Middle Cities Education Association and former deputy executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators.
He currently serves as chairman of the Education Alliance of Michigan, a coalition of 16 leading educational organizations in Michigan.
